PRESS RELEASE

Silvery Records presents the best in new music with duo album launch

- 20th CD by Coventry guitar ace Si Hayden

- Sweet blues and soul featured in Sugardaddies' debut album

Coventry label Silvery Records has announced the simultaneous launch of CDs by two of the area's most distinctive acts - guitar phenomenon Si Hayden and the incorrigible Blues and Soul duo SugarDaddies.

'Live at the Hinckley Act Folk Club' captures Si Hayden at his mesmerising best in live performance and the CD is further enhanced by being packaged with a DVD. This is Si's 20th CD, although only his first live recording since 2005.

By contrast 'Five for the Road' is a studio recording by the 'Daddies featuring a great selection of 'sweet blues and soul' performed by Steve Roberts (guitars, harmonica, vocals) and Adrian Litvinoff (double bass, electric bass, keyboards, vocals).

Both acts celebrate the release of the albums by sharing the bill on two local gigs:
- Thursday 21st April at The Venew, Rugby Road, Leamington, CV32 6DA
- Tuesday 26th April at Bayley's Wine Bar, 24 Bayley Lane, Coventry CV1 5RN
Admission is free at both venues and the music starts at 8.30pm.

Si and Adrian also appear together as members of celebrated Celtic-rock band Joe O'Donnell's Shkayla which headlines a St.George's Day concert at The Charterhouse Club on Davis Road, Stoke, Coventry on Saturday 23rd April.

Si's solo instrumental album was recorded earlier this year at the popular Hinckley ACT Music Club, which meets at its state-of-the-art venue, unusually located in an industrial estate off the A5 near Hinckley and providing a stage for some of the UK's top guitarists including Gordon Giltrap and Michael Chapman.

The last live solo guitar album by this self-taught multi-instrumentalist, 'Live in '05 at the Coventry Jazz Festival', won an excellent review in the national fRoots(folk roots) magazine. The new album is Hayden's 20th recording since 1998 and contains a DVD as well as an audio CD of the captivating show.

He says, 'I was planning to make the 20th album something special but in fact it turned out to be a very straightforward project. They have an excellent set-up at Hinckley ACT and as soon as I heard their recording of the gig, I realised that this would work for the CD.'

As for SugarDaddies, their album features five quirky original numbers performed on soulful guitar, wailing harmonica, stonking piano and pulsating bass.

The music speaks for itself - two bluesmen having a great time with issues of love, life and even politics too! They describe their music as 'philosophy for your road trip - tales of jealousy, desire, frustration and contentment, voices full of feeling, great instrumentation - ear candy for the soulful!'

Starting as a pianist in jazz and blues bands, Adrian Litvinoff took up bass under the influence of Cream. He worked around London's music scene in many different bands, spanning jazz orchestras and small groups, blues and progressive rock. He is now best known for his ground-breaking global jazz group INTERPLAY and his appearances as part of Joe O'Donnell's Shkayla.

Steve Roberts started guitar and harmonica in Sheffield playing tunes by Chuck Berry, Sam Cooke, Muddy Waters, BB King, and Sonny Boy Williamson among others. He is now active with bands such as NuJazz and Loco Mundo.

Steve and Adrian met in 2000 playing jazz together. They discovered a common love of blues and soul and started getting together to jam. Today SugarDaddies are an exciting and versatile duo, playing great blues and soul classics and their own tunes too.

Live Reviews:
"Si's fantastic technique and style on the guitar always goes down a storm at the festival and it was great to welcome him back!"(Chris Davis/CoventryJazzFestival)
"A classical Spanish style guitarist, who will blow you away with his jazz, latin and funk infused songs. How he manages it all on just a 6 string guitar still amazes us. You will have to see him to believe it!(AcousticLounge, Clapham)

Album Reviews:
"Si Hayden with Michael Berk deliver an acoustic pearl called Tango Schizophrenia"(Dmitry M. Epstein, Let it Rock on 'The Alchemist's Vol II')
"Hayden is a very acomplished guitarist, with a good range of styles and moods."(fROOTS Magazine on 'Sabaca')
"It's really nice to hear new music with real musicians, I do a lot of programmed music, but there is something organic about poetry and well tuned musicians. And Si's work is just great, the double bass playing is spot on... it really sounds like the musicians overstood the poetry. Nice one."(Performance Poet Benjamin Zephaniah)
