Exciting line-up of top national and local acts announced for the 2008 Godiva Folk Concert

Internationally acclaimed songwriter Jez Lowe heads an all-star line-up of acts for the 2008 Godiva Festival folk concert.

Nominated as Folksinger of the Year in this year’s BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards, Jez appears with fiddle-player Kate Bramley to round up an exciting six hours of entertainment announced for the afternoon of Sunday 6th July.

The Godiva Festival, billed as the biggest and best free festival in the Midlands, takes place on the War Memorial Park in Coventry. The free-admission concert starts at 1pm on the folk marquee with popular 21-year-old singer-songwriter, Kristy Gallacher whose newly released debut album, Emotional Gun is going down a storm.

Other guests include talented traditional band Dark Island, dynamic young Warwickshire folk band The QPs, powerful campaigning singer and guitarist Rob Halligan, veteran performers of lively Irish songs and tunes The Oddsods, and the new line-up of superb Celtic fusion band Shkayla featuring first-class electric fiddle-playing by Joe O’Donnell, with material from their long awaited new album Celtic Cargo.

Concert organiser and MC is local folksinger Pete Willow who is looking forward to another great afternoon of music. He says, ‘The Godiva folk concert has become a fantastic opportunity to enjoy first-rate performances from world-class acts alongside some of the excellent musical talents to be found in the Coventry and Warwickshire area.

‘It’s also good to see so many accomplished young artists sharing the billing with the more longstanding acts – proof positive of the growing appeal of folk music across the generations.’

The concert runs from 1pm until 7pm. For further details, call Festival organisers, CV One on 024 7629 4525 or contact Pete Willow direct on 01788 832608.
